Why did one of Europe's most efficient gravure printers, with an output of 1,000 tonnes of printed paper per day, become a member of the PPA Programmatic Print Alliance?
The answer: it believes in communication on paper. Burda combines gravure printing with high-speed inkjet. BurdaDruck thus produces the largest hybrid periodic print job in Europe. Month after month, 2.5 million copies of myLife magazine leave the factory. And this is done in partial runs of 100 copies or more, distributed to 7,000 pharmacies.
"We combine the cost advantages of gravure printing on the inside with the variability of digital printing on the cover," explains Ingo Raab, Director of Sales and Business Development at BurdaDruck. And he adds: "Corporate magazines and mail order catalogues, which are usually sent by post with a full address, can even be produced one-to-one and delivered by post.
It is therefore clear that hybrid rotogravure and #programmaticprint are not mutually exclusive, but for large print runs are the most cost-effective variant for creating highly relevant print products.
